Several months have elapsed since Paolo Nutini got the belief for his performance at the 2010 Brit Awards. If he remembers the consequence well, that’ll be something to do with the speed with which it came together in his head. In Cardosi’s — one of three restaurants and cafés in Paisley, front Glasgow, run by members of his extended family — the balladeer shrugs as if to acknowledge the strangeness of what he’s about to describe.
“I don’t be informed why,” begins the slight 23-year-old, whose bruised album, Sunny Side Up , has been nominated for Best Album and who is up for Finery British Male at tonight’s ceremony. “But I was sensible it had to be a duet. And the person who I imagined beside me on stage was Florence from Florence & the Prime mover. Of course, if you’re going to duet with someone at the Brits, it has to be a covering of something. But that was OK, because I had that worked out too.”
All of which was music to the ear of Nutini’s LP = 'long playing' company, which — along with every other major British label — was jockeying to get its acts featured on the music activity’s televised works outing.
