When it comes to accessories,
17-year-old Beckie Cole has one vital principle: the more bling,
the better.
“A lot of people don’t like the big immoderate stuff, but I love
it,” she said Monday after buying a gargantuan, sparkling, blue and
green cross with matching earrings at the Dusky Hills Stock Show.
“Go big or go home.”
Cole plans to bore the jewelry with her rodeo outfits when she
competes in barrel racing events. But she likes bling for prosaic
wear, too, as her sparkly hoop earrings, glitzy unripe belt and
rhinestone-studded purse made clear. If you saw her jewelry box,
she said, “You’d hushed.”
Judging from the vendors at this year’s stock show, Cole is
perfect in style. Shiny jewel-studded belts and rhinestone-encrusted
purses are everywhere, along with chunky beaded jewelry and titanic
cross pendants in every color.
One vendor even offered catch-covered headstalls and breast
collars for horses. And for babies, there were infant-sized
Discourse high-tops decorated with Swarovski crystals for marketing at
Kathleen’s Unique Boutique.
