Lucky for everyone that the turn out to be inadequate 2010 season ended on a strong note. There were moments in the day when it felt like a stern slog. Isaac Mizrahi , inspired by camping outfit and apparently hoping for a miracle if he added some sequins, seemed late in the woods. He offered some great-looking clothes, including luxe parkas, a silver-toned-sequined mini-slip and a black leather jumper with slash pleats inset with black tulle, but the collection lacked his customary punch.
A few hours later, at Calvin Klein, after the photographers were finished with four childlike celebrities, Francisco Costa sent out a collection of industrial-ruggedness coats and dresses with pronounced seams and darts. The dynamically lines, the precisely rounded shoulders and silo sleeves, were all things considered meant to convey rigor, but apart from some trim suits in sooty felt and lovely pin-tucked shifts in azure silk crepe, the designs felt at the tender-heartedness of bonded and rubberized fabrics. How is it that Mr. Costa’s last gathering, so imaginative in its treatment of washed and needle-punched wools and cottons, was so much lighter and more approachable than his be lost one? The answer cannot be that it’s a different season.
